My 6 words are "Be what you want to be". It's about how a 27-year-old jeep dreams of being a race car, but to some it might be the driver wanting to be in a race. I chose this idea because I love racing, I love driving fast (only in the safest conditions of course) and I dream of being a race car driver myself. Also, my car kind of has a personality so this video made me chuckle.
My first idea was going to be about learning something new like learning to drive a stick shift. But, when I took a look at my shots, it didn't really look like the driver was learning something new. So I changed my perspective and kind of let it happen and it did happen and I'm really happy with the final draft. My only criticism is it might take a few times of watching it to really get the main point, so in my opinion, the idea was great but the execution was a little less. I think if I thoroughly planned it out and knew how it was going to go at first, it probably would have flowed together better. Overall though, I am very pleased with the outcome. So, here it is again, a nice and fresh school year. Let me just say I'm psyched (lol taking that AP Psych) that I am back here at this now 2/3 school, 1/3 debris of a building. We are in the new studio which is pretty nice, doesn't have 4G LTE like the last one but it's bigger! But the actual studio is smaller and not so efficient as the one before, but this is only temporary so it's all good. The class is small, I am only one of two returners and the rest are all sophomores (they seem so young :P).
The reason I took this class for a third time was because I like the instructors and the opportunities that it brings. JEA has been the best by far high school memory. This semester, I would really like to focus on collaboration with the other journalism class, and shoot stories with them. I also want to do commercial promos, kind of go into more in depth of the creative part of this class. My ideas for my passion project are lighting design (but it'll be hard to find that one, lighting designers are so busy) or psychology/sociology (interviewing a psychologist/sociologist). Though, I will have to look more into both. The forms of social media I will be using the most this semester will be my SchoolTube account, this website and Facebook. I think I'll post my videos because every one that I make, I get a little more proud of showing it to people. One goal this semester is to produce a complete and well-done news package. I want to work on those skills and do a really thorough one. So I will keep you up to date with how that one goes. See you on the flip side, Jen Trau (the Junior) So much to some people's surprise (Josh), I finished my final and turned it in on time. I did a few things last minute, but overall, I think it turned out alright. I missed a few things but I like my sound bites and the color I used for the introduction and ending. Mrs. Davidson was the main reason why I got this finished on time, so thank you. I should probably learn how to use my time wisely though..
I've learned this semester that this class isn't about the independence of an individual, it's about helping and sharing with others so we all get things done the best way possible. It's a team, and yes we have our own videos but I don't think anyone who has uploaded something had completed that video without the help of anyone else. I will miss this class and my sophomore year, but I am also so grateful it has come to an end. See you on the flip side...as a junior B), Jen Trau This month I created two videos that were 30 seconds each. One was for Marissa, the other for Reis. My two most favorite upperclassman. I ended up doing Reis' last minute, it took me a few hours after school but I'm really proud of how it turned out. Mr. Goble helped me out a lot and so did Reis. I played around with text and sound effects. Marissa really liked hers and I think Reis liked his too.
All month, boxes have been packed and loaded into trucks o be taken away to who knows where. My school is getting knocked down, the VTC will be gone but I'm excited to see how we deal with the small space we have been given for next year. I have two years left, and I plan on producing great grades, and great videos. See you on the flip side. -Jen Trau Last week, I went to the Schnucks and Dierbergs in Des Peres. I regularly go to both and I think I favor Schnucks, but Dierbergs when I am in a pinch. They are fairly new, Schnucks was built in 2009 and Dierbergs was built in 2012. They are greater in size compared to the scattered Schnucks and Dierbergs in St. Louis/ Schnucks is known to be friendlier, more familiar and have cheaper prices. While Dierbergs on the other hand, has a underground garage for parking that is useful when it rains and an escalator that allows you to go to the lower parking garage with your cart, which just gets cool points.
I interviewed one male and one female outside of both. It was interesting because both women had longer answers, with more detail and reason for choosing Schnucks rather than Dierbergs and vice versa. The men, who stereotypically don't shop, liked the specific grocery due to a short, simple and logical answer. I love both grocery stores, and I feel incredibly lucky to live by both of them (the grocery store happens to be my favorite location for an errand). I will admit, an interviewee that was so enthusiastic about Dierbergs, persuaded me to maybe choose to go to Dierbergs a little bit more....Schnucks will always be my number one though. See you on the flip side! Jen Trau This month, I explored the more creative part of video. I want to start a theme of food that goes generations back. I filmed a sample video, playing around with the focus and different angles I made my Nana's toffee. I chose this for the subject of my video because I wanted to try something fun and new. It was the first time using that camera and I decided to go the run route, exploring different settings and adjustments the camera provided. The lesson I learned was that I need to manage time more wisely and storyboard with more detail. I fell behind this project because I didn't get a shot of the finished product. I also learned a lot about the camera and cool and unique things you can do with it. My plan to have a video produced every month is to always look for stories about people around me and have a back up plan. I also want to go the baking route this semester, interview different bakeries and go "behind the scenes". I hope I produce good material and meet deadlines and expectations for now on. I look forward to surprising, and hopefully impressing myself and more importantly, my instructor.
See you on the flip side, Jen Trau This month, I went to the City Museum with Reis and Marissa. There, we shot footage of the circus for the director, Jessica. We got b-roll of the show and interviewed some of the kids. It was super cool to see how young they were yet their talent. It looked like a really amazing opportunity for those interested in circus. We got to see a run of the first half of the show and it didn't fail to have the audience on the edge of their seats. From boys in ballerina tutus to superheroes saving a damsel in distress, the Circus Harmony delivered an amazing taste of their performance.
Submitted my final, so I'm done. This crazy week has finally ended. No more projects, tests or deadlines. This semester has been really, really hard, on a social and academic level. It went by fast because so much happened and I can only hope that 2nd semester is nothing like it.
I decided I am dropping PE and taking Broadcast II next semester instead. Yay!!!! Broadcast people are amazing and I'm excited to see the different of having like 6 kids to a full class...got to show the amateurs how it's done (just kidding, I'm still learning). To a great year and hope that the next one will bring even more serendipitous moments. See you on the flip side
On December 9th, Sahana and I submitted our video for the show. IT was a rocky road to get there but we submitted it and the show was an overall success.
I learned that not everything will go as planned. We had some editing errors and criticism that we soon fixed and all was well. I'm really proud of the finished product and the show overall. It worked really well and wasn't too negative at all. Please check it out!

On the first few classes of the semester, Mr. Goble had pushed our class to sign up for the big trip in November. The trip was 4 days long and we would attend the JEA national convention and have the option of visiting Universal Studios or Disney World. My sister recommended that I go and it looked like an amazing opportunity so my mom signed the check and that was that.
